Over the years I’ve always been a huge fan of case studies, reviews, testimonials, etc regardless if I’m a buyer or seller.

If I buy a product on Amazon, I pour through reviews. When I buy online courses or software I enjoy the testimonials that are verifiable.

So.. a few weeks ago I accidently stumbled across something that was really cool for both of us. It was *Just Sold listings on Flippa which is an online marketplace to sell websites & apps). If listed things over the years and remembered the process, but basically when you list something for sale you need to prove your numbers. Things like downloads, ad impressions, gross revenue, expenses, net revenue, etc.

You can provide screen shots and videos to help verify everything. Seems pretty standard right? Then I saw a few casino slots listings for apps that were created from our mega jackpot slots template.

These games look good, had solid revenue and the listings included bonuses to help the new owner achieve even better results. Things like >

  • How-to guides
  • Video and static ad creatives
  • Full project code
  • Free ad ID swap
  • 60+ day support

You get the idea. I was really excited because it was a solid example and proof of another side of the business. The developer had purchased a unlimited license of the template and simple did one project a time, go it reskinned, launched, promoted to solid profit numbers and THEN > Solid it for even more profit.

What next?

Rinse and repeat. New niche, new game, new art, launch, promote, earn, learn, sell.

I was surprised what these games were selling for once established.

The ROI was nuts.

I needed share it because too many people shy away from opportunities and projects because they think it’s the end all be all. That if you reskin a casino game, that’s all you can do. This developer proved that after resigning, promoting and earning, the app can be sold.

From there it’s either do it again or move on to something else. In the past it was always reskin and earn, then leave it to die. Instead why not put all the pieces together for another developer and then move on. They can take it to the next level while it’s hot. Think of it as a bonus.

Some people like to organize and build. Others like to promote. I’m a builder for sure, so I started thinking I might go down that route and started to sell a few of my apps.
I’d rather build and set the next developer up for a win than promote all the time.

Anyway, I’m sure you want to see the details so here we go with 2 from the same developer.

THE BREAKDOWN

Example #1

Screen Shot 2017-11-20 at 2.32.51 PM (2)

App Name: Slots – Prosperity Jackpot Casino

  • Sold Price: $7,200
  • Monthly Revenue when sold: $2,300
  • Monthly Revenue vs. Sold Price Multiplier: 3.1x
  • Monthly Net Profit vs. Sold Price Multiplier: 4.0x!
  • ($7,200 / $1,790 = 4.0)

CLICK HERE to see the Flippa Sold Listing

CLICK HERE to see it Live in the App Store

Revenue Sources:

  • Chartboost: $2,300
  • Selling the app: $7,200

Total Revenue: $9,500

I’m not exactly sure on the graphics cost and it could be less depending on the source, but to be fair and average I’ve listed below.

$500 on graphics for the game

$100 for the video ad creative

$500 to pay someone to swap all the assets or $0 if you do it yourself)

$0 for the template (he had already bought it)

Cost to produce the game: $1100

(500 less if you reskin yourself)

+

$510 spend on advertising

+

$1080 Flippa 15% Success Fee (Flippa commission if you sell)

Total estimated range cost of everything

  • Art
  • Advertising costs
  • Advertising creative video ad
  • Success fee (Flippa commission if you sell)

=$2,690

Screen Shot 2017-11-20 at 3.19.58 PM (2)

  • Net Profit = $6,810 (Add $500 more to your profit if you reskin it yourself)
  • Net Profit Margin = 71.68%
  • Return on investment (ROI) = $253.16%

Note: That is a solid range and does not include the cost of the template which could be around $700-800 depending on purchase date. Once this was paid for once, it was essentially free which is what he did.

Example # 2

Screen Shot 2017-11-20 at 3.21.01 PM (2)

  • App Name : Wild Cat Slots Kingdom – Jackpot Casino
  • Sold Price: $3,499
  • (only had 14 days of revenue on listing so I still called it monthly)
  • Monthly Revenue vs. Sold Price Multiplier: 3.1x
  • Monthly Net Profit vs. Sold Price Multiplier: 6.78!
  • ($3,499 / $516 = 6.78)

Revenue Sources:

  • Chartboost: $1,112
  • Selling the app: $3,499

Total Revenue: $4,611

Cost to produce the game: $1100

See full breakdown the expenses in the first example at the top of this page

+

$596 spend on advertising

+

$408 Flippa 15% Success Fee (if you sell)

Total estimated range cost of everything =

$2,104

Screen Shot 2017-11-20 at 3.20.36 PM (2)

  • Net Profit = $2,507
  • Net Profit Margin = 54.37%
  • Return on investment (ROI) = $119.15%

Note: That is a solid range and does not include the cost of the template which could be around $700-800 depending on purchase date. Once this was paid for once, it was essentially free which is what he did. It also assumes you will pay someone to reskin and get decent art. If you have a low cost developer (or you can do it with our free video reskin course) and a great low lost designer your total cost could be $300 or less + your time.

Summary of this case study >

**************************************

So it’s fair to say this is a very profitable way to use an asset like the mega jackpot slots template and one I never considered to share. I’m sure there are others out there that have done it, but I didn’t go back that far on Flippa and that wouldn’t include private sale deals or other broker sites.

I think it’s a great example of adaptation because in the past people used reskinning as a volume based approach. Buy a template and reskin it 10,20,50+ times and use those initial organic downloads to get your revenue, let the app die and move on. I remember those days and never published more than 5-6 of these games, but it was possible to get games to earn over 1k with little cost involved. Fast forward to now and not only are those organic downloads from launch gone, you have to worry about Apple rejecting for spam.

However, with selling these apps you avoid the issues many are worried about + put extra CASH in your pocket.

You are >

  1. Producing a nice visually appealing and entertaining game for your users
  2. Using advertising to get high quality low cost users into your app
  3. Monetizing with ads
  4. Selling your game to another developer to continue promoting
  5. Freeing up your time to move on to the next project with more cash
  6. Transferring the app out of your account

This way you don’t have a lot of games in your account from the same template + get that extra bonus revenue of the sale which seems to be 3-4x monthly revenue.

Later in the week we will be releasing MJS v5.0 for a killer price a TON of bonuses.

If you’ve been on the fence or waiting for the right time to buy now is your chance.
